Red Folder

The Red Folder Project: Saving Vital Time in an Emergency

We are all incredibly vulnerable during a medical crisis.

When an emergency strikes, communication shouldn't be a barrier to getting life-saving help.

The Red Folder Project is a vital initiative launched by FAST, in close partnership with the Mazarrón Ayuntamiento, Protección Civil, and Social Services.

Our goal is simple: to alleviate distress and save precious minutes when FAST or 112 are called to a casualty who is non-responsive or unable to communicate effectively.

Why Is This Project So Important?

When a medical emergency occurs, pain, distress, or unconsciousness can make it impossible for a patient to speak for themselves. This becomes a critical issue when:

· The patient lives alone.

· The emergency services are called by a caring neighbour or friend who knows the patient's name but lacks knowledge of their medical history or emergency contacts.

The Red Folder bridges this gap, speaking for you when you cannot.

What Is Inside the Pack?

When you collect your pack, you will receive three essential components:

1. The Red Folder: A highly visible folder to securely store your vital documents.

2. The Medical & Personal Questionnaire: A comprehensive form available in both English and Spanish. It covers crucial details such as: o Identity and next of kin contacts. o Health coverage (Public, Private, or International like GHIC). o Medical background, allergies, and your latest prescriptions. o Practical details (e.g., pet care instructions, funeral plans, or Do Not Resuscitate orders).

3. The Locator Sticker: A bilingual sticker used to identify exactly where your folder is hidden in your home.

Need help filling it out?

Instruction leaflets are available but our team is here to assist you if you need help completing the questionnaire in another language.

How Much Does the Pack Cost?

The pack is entirely FREE to you – the project is being funded by Mazarron Ayuntamiento in conjunction with Proteccion Civil.

How It Works (Step-by-Step)

· Step 1: Complete the Forms Fill out the bilingual questionnaire with your latest medical and contact details.

· Step 2: File it Away Place the completed paperwork inside the Red Folder and store it somewhere reasonably accessible in your house.

· Step 3: Stick it on the Door Fill out the locator sticker in both English (for FAST) and Spanish (for 112) stating exactly where the folder is (e.g., "On the living room table" or "Top drawer in the bedroom").

Place this sticker on the inside of your front door.

Proven to Work

This system genuinely saves lives. We have already experienced instances where emergency ambulance crews spotted the sticker on the inside of the front door and immediately asked for the Red Folder. Even when a patient is conscious, having this information ready makes the intake process much quicker and easier for paramedics, ensuring treatment can start without delay.
